Another Dance

Another Dance

Move onto the floor

Gaze around in this place

Find the one who connects with you

As you seek to find your space.

Move your eyes to the left

With a smile and a glance

Sway gently to the sounds,

Its your music, so just dance.

Move your feet with a lift

Take your eyes away from him

Just focus on the sound

As you quickly move around.

Its your night, your time to shine

Your eyes revert to seek him out

Its okay to dance for him to see

Give him a dance for memory.

Dance, dance

It’s just another night to put on a show

Fast or slow no one else will know,

Don’t give into the eyes

That are waiting patiently

To return to the arms that forever will be

A reminder of the night when they first met

Dance my darling, life has no regrets.

Reflections

The past is never what it appears to be

Weighing pros and cons from my reverie.

The things gone by are a lesson for life,

Moving on with a future, uncertain of luck or strife.

As I reflect upon the things, I did in my past

These reflections are deep

Sometimes showing up for contrast.

Though I try to keep them from coming forward

It’s a struggle to not think of how things can have power

This journey I walk is always alone

For this very reason, ensured I have a home.

Reflecting on things I have not managed yet to do

Is a reminder that regrets sometimes - do follow you.

I’ve always wanted to be the best mother I could be

Not sure if you asked my kids, if they would agree.

There is never a day when I’ve forgotten my role

As a mother is forever, all over the world.

They are older, and no longer holding onto my skirts

Now, forever I reflect of God’s blessings with their birth!

Thinking back

No longer playful

I used to be.

The trees always beckoned me.

Loved hiking, the water, trekking in the wild.

Playfully lit with spontaneous smiles.

No longer playful

I used to be.

Running a thousand steps, happily.

As the gates opened, my strides went to the line.

Playfully running; happiness was mine.

Forgot how to be playful

Probably too old to be.

It requires activity, that feels uneasy.

Got to get back that spark, and desire for fun

The clock has been ticking; its time for the sun.

Thinking back from the past

Reflections have begun,

On the days when playing was actually done.

Will book me a weekend, at a place far away

Hopefully I will find, some time to play!

A Canopy of Grace

Drop your canopy O Lord, let it fall on the earth.

Let it pick up all the people who are suffering and hurt.

Let your canopy be big enough, that everyone can fit,

Lord please I beg you, allow everyone to see it.

Drop your canopy on the ground O Lord,

Because some people cannot look up high

For these are the people who love you, and without it may surely die.

Drop your canopy dear Lord, for the little children to see

Especially, the ones who are impoverished and living in poverty

Drop your biggest canopy dear God on the earth

Let it be enough, like a berth awaiting vessels to sail

A mooring prepared with glorious flair, just waiting

For the people to get there.

Drop it, just drop it on the earth

Drop it because you care.

Please let your canopy fall dear Lord, because not everyone can see

Let the ones who need it most dear Lord, be covered by its safety.

Drop your canopy my Lord and Savior, drop it on the ground

Let it be big enough that everyone can fit on it and be safe and sound.

My Canopy

A Canopy of Faith

Which I profess

My life is a story

Of the times, I’ve been blessed.

A childhood of joy, mirrored with some pain and sadness

But there is always my hope

My life in this world.

There are very few times

My faith has not been tested

Indeed, but for my beloved Jesus

My heart would not have rested.

This canopy of hope has resulted from my faith

The lessons from life

Proved my God is great.

I’m covered by a canopy

Which keeps me safe at night

Giving me protection

Cloaking with its light.

As my destiny unfolds

Let me share this with you

Jesus Christ is a canopy; for me and for you.

Dancing Swirls

Dance, yes you girl

Make the wind swirl,

Around your legs

As you pivot and float.

Jump up high and hold onto the air

Your swirling dance moves, without a care.

You don’t stand still

With the music swirling around

Everyone is amazed

Yet you never hear a sound.

Dance, yes you girl

It was always meant to be

The rhythm and your movement

Just perfection and harmony.

Swirling Thoughts

You got me stumped,

Now I must think.

How can I even contemplate,

the idea of swirling?

Its either an ice-cream being swirled in a mix,

Or maybe it’s some plasticine,

Made from rows of colored sticks?

I’m not sure if I got this one,

And I’m not sure if I can see,

If anything around can swirl into my brain,

Just to make sense of this word ‘swirl’ for me.

At first I thought maybe its dancing,

With my skirt swirling around my knees,

But suddenly realized I’d fall flat on my face

If some swirling really took place!

Considering next a few splashes of paint

Thrown on a paper to create a design,

Suddenly that swirl made a lot of sense

Understanding right before my eyes.

So okay Eugenia, think I’ve got a writing plan

And a way to take swirl ‘mainstream’.

Kindly make it a little easier, for me to think again

Cause this one, is hodgepodge on my screen!

A Rainbow Story

Raced up the hill to look outside
To see the rainbow colors which cannot hide
The grass was wet
And down I rolled
Beyond my house
Far down the narrow road.
The birds looked on
Chirping in delight
The dogs stepped aside
To see my disaster flight.
The sun shifted past the clouds
Exclaiming with glee
Come out and let’s play
And bring your family!

As I landed at the bottom of the hill,
Lay on my back,
For a moment very still.
Gazing up at the sky,
It was simply wonderful to see
The rainbow was looking right down at me.
What a beautiful sight
As the birds made their songs,
The puppy and the frogs
All jumped up and down.
Contentment and joy
Descended from above,
Softly whispering to me,
Here is the rainbow you love!

A Rainbow Of Hope

There are rainbows in life that tip the scales

They come when life happens

When good intentions fail.

If suddenly you feel sadness and fear

Just remember a rainbow is waiting right there.

You see, the rain must fall

For the grass to grow,

And there must be some weather

For the waterways to flow.

The thunders must sound to keep us cozy inside

There must be some noise

To help the little children hide.

For the rainbow to come,

The rain must subside,

Cause looking out through the window

The colors will come alive.

It’s a symbol of hope

And a lesson for folks to see,

That even when you cry

Eventually, you can be happy.

The rainbow only comes forward

After the rain is in the past,

Its your miracle when life happens

To say tough times will never last!

Always Extraordinary

Do you really want to be extraordinary?

Let me go -

Not into the light but into the darkness.

Let me find that place where others fear to walk.

In the light, my light cannot be seen easily.

It is in the challenges,

That my glow will show,

And it takes the fears and greater effort,

To find that glorious difference.

If I walk into that unknown dark place,

It says that I am strong,

I am able,

I am not giving up,

I am not letting go of,

Taking chances and looking past risks,

Not letting go of hope, trust,

Not holding back on forgiveness and love.

Walking into that different and dark place,

Says that I am not afraid to be,

Extraordinary!

Let Me Get To Extraordinary

Let me get to extraordinary

Life keeps getting better all the time

Makes me smile.

There are many places to know,

I’m just itching to go.

I just want to see everything this world can present at my feet

That’s extraordinary.

Taking the pencil beyond its sphere,

To find what life is doing to me here.

I’m at a place that I don’t want forever to keep me,

Want to feel the sand,

In another land.

Touch, taste and see,

Want everything for me

To be extraordinary!

An Empowered Life...Watch Me As I Walk

Watch Me As I Walk

Watch me as I walk
My hips may shake a bit
These legs they still look strong
No heels on to give them a lift
My shoulders don't slouch
And my waist is a wee bit round
But I'm sure you will not notice
As I strut and sing my song.
I've got the silver streaks
My hair has lived through many trips
A real natural beauty
With some personality
From my lips.

Watch me as I walk,
Confident glow of womanhood at its peak
A lifetime journey ,and stories of which I speak
My aging has never been in vain
A point my look defines
I've got the music in my brain
Can dance, sing, and you will gaze
I can still hold my own on the town
Older and wiser,
Yes, I have been around!

Watch me as I walk
See the mystery
I’ve been living my life more than breathing
I know all the pebbles on the street.
You call me grandmother, wife, sister, daughter or friend
I’ve made my life,
A story I will defend
Just watch me as I walk
Strong woman,
God’s miracle worker
Life holder, heaven sent!

This is a global subject and affects women worldwide. In admiration and respect for all women in all corners of the world who support and promote our young girls and women's rights. This is for the men who support and work with us. In solidarity. Thank You!

Dreamcatcher and The Prince

Dream Catcher and the Prince

Standing above
I look at my prince fast asleep.
He’s one of my favorites
His dreams are memories.
The moments he misses
With mist filled eyes.
A million little kisses
From his mom when alive.

Dreamcatcher, I am
Holder of dreams
Happiness and danger
And other things that are unseen.
I stretch my hand to guide
The light towards my charge
It’s a wonder he’s even sleeping
His happiness is a mirage.

Subconsciously my prince knows
Sun comes out after rain
Hidden deep in his heart
He dreams of his mother again.
Digging deep into his sleep
And my Dreamcatcher’s nest
I’m searching for memories
To help him find rest.

The Dreamcatchers goal
Is to help happiness unfold
Taking him to God
For his mother to hold.
His memories feel sadly real
And this night will require a disguise
I’m hoping his memory mother will visit
To hold him till it’s time to arise.

I send my silver net
Filled with his tears and dreams
She whispers to him
Telling wonderful stories.
As I look at his pillow
And the smile on his lips
This night is a blessing
Of love and pure bliss.

The night comes to an end
And it’s time to go
He awakes with a smile
And a memory from old.
His mother was there
It was a glorious night.
This Dreamcatcher is finished
Until it is night!

Dreamcatcher Tales

Dreamcatcher Tales

The winds blew hard
And the raindrops tip-toed
The shutters banged,
And the doors blew open.
That flash of light,
Sails into a bedroom scene
The dreamcatcher comes knocking
To release your fantasies.

Cinderella had her stories
Snow White and Rapunzel too.
The big book when it opens
tells how dreams can come true.
With a click of the heels,
and red shoes for a prize,
The Dreamcatcher comes knocking,
to give your surprise.

The leprechauns and fairies,
Birds, frogs and trees,
Tell wonderful stories of how things can be.
When the night comes,
the enchantment,
and hidden surprise,
Give life to all the wonders
hidden beneath your Dreamcatcher’s eyes.

Of the stars and the moon,
that play upon your pillow and slumber,
flashes the Dreamcatcher
Who anticipates your wonders.
The butterflies and owls,
are the midnights servers and friends,
bringing all dreams
To a wonderous end.

The Dreamcatchers web,
holds the horrible tales,
the things made for nightmares,
When sadness assails.
With a swift hand and a silver web,
a net that drags away all fears,
leaving feathers, and marshmallows
For sleep without cares.

As the morning light streams in,
awakening with light.
The shadows stretch out,
What a wonderful night.
The Dreamcatcher,
my hero, web weaver supreme,
Thank you for always letting in,
all my wonderful dreams!

Precious Jewels

Jewels In the rough
Very tough.
Delicate to hold,
Very Bold.
Playing in your school yard
Always full of joy
Our neighborhood makes it
Very hard to be employed.

Children, jewels growing up
Smiling and giving
Impressionably able to mold
Smiling as your life unfolds.
Exams are always hardest
Feigning satisfaction during hunger
Hoping for a feast before the pain
Smiling because life has much to gain.

Jewels, making it in the world
A story is told
Your heart glows brightly like the diamond you are
A star
Life sits at your feet
A life busy, things to do with people you meet
Your glimmer dims
Zirconia is a jewel still

Aging with time
The jewels, some are mine
Their cut and edges sharp not smooth
Setting them apart
Jewels with and without heart
A new beginning starts
They are all precious to behold
Jewels, not just silver or gold.

The Champion

The Champion

Yes mom, I see you
Doing it all for everyone
You make it happen
Fixing it best
You turn tragedy to triumph
Never wavering or giving up
I’m breaking the seal on this bottle
Taking a glass and toasting to you
You are a champion
You make it happen
Take a rest, I’m with you.

Who is the real champion?
Is it son number one who
Gives it all up to fulfil his mama’s dreams
Who takes the burdens of the family
Making his mother’s load easy.
Who is the real champion?
Is it son number two
Setting aside his life for a bigger cause
Helping his mama to get through
The challenges of living
Giving time for her to be renewed.

Champions are right here with us
Don’t struggle outside to see
In your home, they are there
In your family.
Who is the champion that lifts you up
And carries your burdens sometimes
Who is really a champion
That is always at your side.
Its easy to look outside
At the person you cannot see
The champion exists
Most times not in your dreams

Valentine's day and Love

Valentines Day and Love

I'm not looking for roses,
Don't send me a bouquet.
I'm not feeling for your chocolates
Don't get me started on even cake
I'm not feeling for the date night
Nor the sentiments of love
Why do you wait on Valentines Day
To give me all the above?

I'm not feeling for your phone call
To ask me out, for dinner this time
I'm not waiting for a special song
The one, that says "you'll always be mine"
I'm not trying to be difficult
Really, I'm not sure you can see
Why do you wait for Valentines Day
To say - I love you, my boo, my baby?

I'm not going to try to tell you
About all the days you made me cry
I'm not even going to give you
One more reason, to stay at my side
I'm still the person you met so long ago
The one you promised to be faithful to
Why should I wait for just one day
To hear you love me too?

To all of those who are celebrating
And happy to spruce up and get dressed
To all the loving couples
Who are somehow today feeling blessed
I'm not trying to rain on your parade
I just want this love you feel to be
Much more than a single celebration
Of a commercial, happy meal

It's not the things that he will give you
Or the way she makes you feel
Its not the things he says he can do
Nor the way she lives your dreams
Its about a love that can find forgiveness
Comfort and compromise
Its about a love which will withstand challenges
In the face of all that brings tears to your eyes
Its about the sustaining love that goes beyond
The treasure of one time
If you can't share the things right above
Don't be my Valentine!

After Romance

After Romance…

Can’t let you sweep me off my feet
I’ve learnt that romance can be quite cheap
A few words and whispers
Then suddenly it’s all guile
But it soon will be over
Romance will die

No sadness intended but romance should be banned
It deserves to go hiding
In fairytale Wonderland
Don’t think I am still a fool
Romance died soon after
My graduation from school

The butterflies have stopped living
In my belly and my head
Experience has taught me
Timeless love may be dead
Let the man I have yet to meet understand
Romance left me waiting in another land

Romance may be dead for me
But for you I will pray
That you find someone to love and romance you
In that perfect special way.
The best is yet to come, but take no advice from me
Romance is okay if it makes you happy.

Romance Gone Wrong

Romance gone wrong

I used to dream that I would meet
Someone who would love me completely
He would want to give the roses a chance
And he would find just the right music
To give me romance.

For many years I read and created a mold
A man above all who’s love would unfold
Before his heart would be left unfulfilled
He would want to be with me
A romantic way to live

Yet, many moons have since past
My slipper is lost,
The prince in my fairy tale
Replaced by frogs with no songs
My Romance gone wrong

Still, in my older years I still hope maybe
The elusive romance will somehow find me
And I will be tasked to dig deep
And compromise
Romance or folly, temptation may be denied

What is the romance we desire when we wait
When the fantasy plays in your heart and
the dance stops before it begins
What reasons do we have to believe
Romance is real?

Understanding Life

Understanding Life

I sit alone and think
Wondering about my time here on earth.
When we are born
It is our death which comes next
We walk through this world
Not knowing the day, the hour, or the moment,
when we will say goodbye.

Do you live to die or are dying to live?
When life happens, we grow
And when death is coming
We do not know.
Thus, we forget that time
is all we have that we hold,
purposing ourselves on earth.

I sit alone reflecting on,
all the folks once judged, maybe also being judged.
The unfairness of time,
it does not give time for full recompense.
There is joy and kindness later on in life,
because we learnt from our experiences
and lived our lessons well.

Can we redo from birth to present?
Is there a way to turn back the clock to be-
a better human, maybe?
Yet the curtain will fall,
when our time is called,
and life as we know it
goes asunder.

I reflect with my God,
The Creator of all.
I think and wonder,
at the beauty of creation and the finality
of our existence.
Each and everyone of us, molded from atoms of dust,
created to live and die on earth – until eternity.

Winter Dreams

Winter Dreams

I walked outside to a chilly breeze
The weather I love makes me freeze.
My mittens are on and my scarf wound tight.
Going out to do shopping and get home before night.
Winter in London is happiness to me
It’s a tropical reversal
And all I want it to be.

Catching my first flight
Eight hours away
I found to my surprise, I wanted to stay.
The clothes and the fashion
The food and the fun
My first visit to London in winter,
Was loved by everyone.

When my business was finished
It was onto the sights
And I was ever so entranced by the cold winter’s night.
I never felt the frost bite
Nor the chattering of my teeth.
It was pubbing and laughter
I was in my glee.

The day came too soon when I had to say goodbye
My heart now belongs to a cold winter’s night.
A fairytale that came through
For a little girl that was me.
In the stillness of nights
I dream
Of winters to sleep!

5/02/2021

My Thoughts...

Growing up in the Caribbean I was always fascinated with movies and stories that were in winter. Even when I did not know if I would see it in real, I did at 30, and it was amazing. My first visit to my dream became a reality, and unlike most persons I know, can’t complain about the cold. The first time I experienced hale was also glorious, and as I stood outside a store, the icy drops were like being pelted with ice cubes. Amazing!

Keep dreaming your dreams, and maybe one day you can make them come through!

My mother always had a playful daredevil streak

She was a teacher, and actress, a creator, an inventor

A survivor.

My mother loved fashion and dressing

She had style and class, and loved wigs and Marilyn Monroe

The stars in the sky and on the screen, inspired her.

Today my mother is older and wants to hold onto her independence

‘Once a man twice a child’ is the saying I hear, with tears understanding

My mother is growing older, and so am I.

Imagine me, as I used to be in the past with my mother

Indeed, I was as cheeky and brave and bold just as she was at times

As I really see my mom now, imagine us – older now.

Imagine that time just keeps going and its speeding up fast

And I just want some more time to do more, be different, be better for her.

We are in this together, me and her, her and me – we.

Imagine that there were words spoken and unspoken with messages hard and soft

Life gives us each other, bonded by love like no other

I see what is to come but wait not – life is to be lived.

Imagine mom and me and all our memories, and everything is more than we imagined it could be

My mom is growing older, and I am too

Imagine living your dreams.
