After Romance

Photo Credits: unsplash,com/Ivana Medic After Romance… Can’t let you sweep me off my feet I’ve learnt that romance can be quite cheap A few words and whispers Then suddenly it’s all guile But it soon will be over Romance will die No sadness intended but romance should be banned It deserves to go hiding In fairytale Wonderland Don’t think I am still a fool Romance died soon after My graduation from school The butterflies have stopped living In my belly and my head Experience has taught me Timeless love may be dead Let the man I have yet to meet understand Romance left me waiting in another land Romance may be dead for me But for you I will pray That you find someone to love and romance you In that perfect special way. The best is yet to come, but take no advice from me Romance is okay if it makes you happy. 11/02/2021 Copyright ©2021 Dwordslayer & Donna-Luisa Eversle...

Sharing that not so good review!

Giving the r eviews... What do you do when you want to leave a realistic honest review but know the other side won't take it well?  In the past I would never be afraid about sharing a review which is negative, however we live in a society where less than positive reviews are frowned upon. Everyone's opinion is just that... an opinion. If the experience one had is negative, should that review not be shared?  There is a saying I've developed over the years, "If himself tells himself he is good, then he is good in his vision and his reality is himself!". From political, social, religious, and even personal perceptions, growth can only be exponential if the views and others are considered. It does not mean we must change to suit others, but simply means everyone is not receiving what we think we are giving. There is also the perspective that coming out of differences we can learn and improve. I recall at an office party for an outgoing manager ...

Developing a society of bullies: The ugly truth in plain sight

I can vaguely remember a book I read during my secondary level literature class called ‘School’s Out’. I cannot recall the author but I remember the plot was one which involved the most unlikely careless people in the role of teachers. That book shed light on what happens when the education system fails children and the community. At the time I thought it was a funny satirical story about our West Indian education system which was not at all like that. Now, I think I have found an institution and society which resembles that type of attitude and embodies the dysfunction it exposed many years ago. School may be out for some, at least locally, where a lawless society is created, not from poverty and illiterate criminals, but from intellectuals who lack the discipline and commitment to be better examples. I am not sure this should be committed to paper, but it is troubling when faced with a facade which is a disgrace to an education system. The bully Bullies are breed. They are g...

Life can be a 'butt' sometimes!

Life can be like a big butt sometimes. Its a weight you were born to carry that everyone sees and can comment on, but only you get to carry. No one can take your load from you because its built on your frame and you have to work with what you got!(Dwordslayer,2017) I spent most of my life so far feeling conscious that I have this 'trailer' of weight I carry around with me. Some folks think its great to have this 'big butt' but it can make one the 'butt of jokes' and the person who stands out in the crowd for all the wrong reasons. My perception was not the reality of others who expressed their pleasure at the very thing which caused me anguish! Growing up I tried to hide my derriere, and eventually gave up. We live in a sexist world where women and now men, are seen superficially and esthetics are important to getting noticed. Being noticed for all the wrong reason can damage confidence and self esteem, so its important to learn how to change the image o...

Aging and not wasting time, talents and thankfulness

After seeing gray hairs, I'm thinking! I'm aging. We all are. From the time of our birth we are aging to the point of death. That's the reality of life. I looked at a recent photograph of me and I'm amazed...yes. God sure understands creation and is a creative inventor. Everyone has a talent and its important to discover your unique talent and grow with it. There are days I think that God broke the beautiful mold he had for me and then I look around and see so many beautiful people I think maybe he has one (1) m ... old. It makes a lot of sense if we are "in his image and likeness" that our creator has a mold for the human race and the stuff on the outside is to help us - not him- recognize each other. Thus if we pursue hating others we are in fact hating ourselves and our creator. Our beauty is in our uniqueness a nd not in the shade of our skin or our religious and social beliefs. I'm not a philosopher or a preacher. I'm no...

The past is best left alone!

Keeping the past locked away in the past. The temptation to look back and wish is easy, especially when only good memories are at the front of your mind. Remember the past is 'what was' and the present is 'what is .' The future will be whatever you want it to be. Keep moving forward. I wrote the above recently and shared via Facebook. It was triggered when a friend of mine shared her thoughts on a matter and someone I knew for a long time was mentioned. When I hear his name my heart still beats fast, but a hurt and sad feeling soon follows. Not all relationships are good. Not all relationships are worth saving. If someone cannot love you for who you are, don't try to be who they want. You can only be the best you, and anything else is a poor imitation of the beauty you are. Love happens when we are young and we can become idealistic when it does not mature as we wish. In fact, sometimes we forget the flaws and focus on the dreams. Dreams are exactly as we...

The Changing of the Guard

It drawers closer… The thing about history is – something happened previously. It can be moments before, days before, or many ages before. History holds the archives of our decisions, actions and consequences. Slavery, and its oppressive nature happened. The Klu Klux Klan aka KKK was and is real. The brutality against minorities from time immemorial has a place in the bowels of the world. We thought we had moved on… we did not. Obviously.  Oppression, hatred and white supremacy crimes happened and continues to happen. If we look at the western societies which we assume to be civilized, we can see vestiges of something which should never be in our present. To unearth ancient civilizations it takes skilled archeologists to discover under tons of rubble, lost cities and artifacts. Many of these things we use to understand what was there before, and why it no longer is. There are somethings we can all hope to banish into oblivion, so it cannot be found, such a...

As The Story Says

The Fairy-tale  "Once upon a time , far away across the Caribbean Seas in a tiny island, a family of four little girls played in the sun. They lived with their mother alone as their dad went away to seek his fortune, never to return. The girls were taught about the continents, geography, romantic dreams and of course, the reality of life..." This story could be the beginning of any one of the fairy-tales, or  Enid Blyton Stories, but it is real. Life for many children growing up when I was younger was a romantic dream of sorts on many days. We lived on stories of fairies because we were part of the Girl Guide movement, and storytelling was the way we learned about right and wrong, good and bad. There were also stories from local folklore which seemed to give credence to the existence of  a magical kingdom. Even attending bible study and Sunday Mass seemed  to be a part of the fantasy conspiracy we called reality. It was not until I turned ten or eleven yea...
