Engagement - Recurring Decimals & Skateboarding!

Skateboarding logic "I am afraid of falling, but I will always take a chance!"(Eversley,2015) Skateboarders, I think are some crazy interesting people. These guys do not play it safe. Why would you want to skate down stairs or a railing? Let’s take the stairs – its constant small drops, and jerks while on a piece of board or plastic on wheels. The image says it all. That's not my son, its another young hero, but Andrew swears its perfection! These guys know how to fall, and they are actually thinking about what they did wrong while falling. At least my first son Andrew expressed this as we discussed his passion for that extreme sport. Andrew is also a Liverpool soccer fan  ( we call it football), and he gets a lot of ribbing for supporting a team which does not seem to like to win much - my opinion! He loves the team, and their team spirit, making sure we know their club song “You’ll never walk alone”. He is loyal, and will support that team win, lose or...

Engagement - You got game !

Family Business Travel My second son Aaron, traveled with me to London for a business meeting a couple years ago. We were travelling with Virgin Atlantic ( best airline!) via Barbados, and I used the opportunity to meet with a major business customer. Aaron, had never been to Barbados, and was quite pleased to meet with the customer, and see  a bit of the island. The sea surrounds everything and he enjoyed lunch over looking the beautiful ocean with our client. It was in his opinion a great place for a business meeting with excellent food! Aaron, is a Manchester United Soccer fan ( we call it football)  and can also be considered a gamer. He is in a 'stuffy traditional career'- accountant, and an entrepreneur, as is my elder son. The genesis of this post is actually based on a conversation he was sharing with his brother. I was eavesdropping and enjoyed the experience, though I did jump in at the end!  Gaming requires engagement! "You are, either a part...

Seeing The Glass For What It Is

The Light Yesterday I saw one of my doctors, and realized my journey will be long. I knew this before, but it only hit me ( a big wallop) last night. I have ongoing pain. Some days are better than others, but I am alive. For those following my journey you will know this year I decided I must live, live, live. Whatever your story, whatever your struggle, whatever your challenges - you are alive to see another dawn. I have over thirty plus years experience in "sales and business development"and most aspects of  both fields. Tough times don't change unless you get tough and wise. For life to be sustained you have to find a way to balance the challenges of your professional life and your personal reality. I have had the privilege to be an entrepreneur  working in a regional market with an international supplier and a local base. I have had successes and I've had my share of failures, all adding to my practical experience. Most importantly though, I have had th...

NEGOTIATING SUCCESSFULLY!

Compromise Successful negotiation is about both parties ending with benefits based on deliberations. For this to happen the following is suggested; Both parties should agree on a timeline for the discussions before starting Willingness of all parties to give the opportunity to express Willingness off all parties to listen to what the other is saying Clearly stating concerns and any disagreements Asking for clarity on anything not understood An open and frank atmosphere Respectful interactions Compromise   Meeting at a location which is neutral to both parties is always best but sometimes not possible. If this happens the hosting party should ensure the guest has all professional courtesies available. Entering the negotiation should begin with trust, and it is a necessary element for there to be a successful outcome! Tip Be prepared for your discussion. Negotiation and compromise go hand in hand. Be open, be clear and always enter with the mindset that the best ...

Let's Talk ... FOCUS

Keep focused on your objective. Distractions and noise will always be present. Develop a sense of purpose in accomplishing the little things and the bigger ones will become easier! Focusing is drawn from inner strength and a cool head. Keep focused to achieve your goals! © Donna-Luisa Eversley and D-WORDSLAYER, 2016. Writing Write - My Words For You!

Writing on writing.... How do I know what to write? There are few times I intend to write. Writing is a reflex action driven by my emotions. When I have intense joy, sadness, anger, and love I feel the words in my head, sometimes my heart, and a powerful desire to pen them. There was never a consideration to become an author, journalist, copywriter or any such career which involved someone reading my words. Somehow, I have been lying to myself; I have always been writing, and expressing on paper, electronic or otherwise, a message. In business, my team and managers quickly realized this ability, and I would prepare drafts, briefs, contracts, sales proposals, and customer / business reviews. Researching and reading is easy for someone who enjoys words. It becomes easier for someone who likes experimenting and welcomes challenges and change. Business expression is life expression. Words communicate benefits, and therefore I write. There is a story in everything. One of ...

Trafficking & D-Wordslayer

Traffick Driving I’ve never thought of myself as a ‘Traffick Driver” but it will be joining my job description very soon. I have LinkedIn to thank for this, and I'm not sure if free labor is really free! I can't complain, because where else will you find so many free  writing contractors as so many have advised on this forum. I'm wondering if I have  masochistic  tendencies hidden somewhere  - and please note the dictionary I use states "Someone who enjoys causing their own suffering." That's the Urban Dictionary for the softest meaning! I do enjoy my time here. I even have the perfect picture (from a few years ago) which will show that I know what to do in a car. I will make the claim and accept the blame, for trying to navigate around the steep roads.  I must do this, if my words must get through this ‘under construction zone.' This is not me operating at even 25% of my capacity, so I’ll make the disclaimer upfront – I can do ‘badass all by my...
