Thinking back

No longer playful I used to be. The trees always beckoned me. Loved hiking, the water, trekking in the wild. Playfully lit with spontaneous smiles.   No longer playful I used to be. Running a thousand steps, happily. As the gates opened, my strides went to the line. Playfully running; happiness was mine.   Forgot how to be playful Probably too old to be. It requires activity, that feels uneasy. Got to get back that spark, and desire for fun The clock has been ticking; its time for the sun.   Thinking back from the past Reflections have begun, On the days when playing was actually done. Will book me a weekend, at a place far away Hopefully I will find, some time to play!   Eugi’s Causerie weekly prompt has inspired the above!   Thank you for stopping by. Please share your thoughts with a word or a few, there is not a ‘like’ button, but emojis will do 👍👎👊💓😐😊😎🙋.   Copyright ©2021 Dwordslay...

Understanding Life

Photo Credits: unsplash.com/Alex Ringer Understanding Life I sit alone and think Wondering about my time here on earth. When we are born It is our death which comes next We walk through this world Not knowing the day, the hour, or the moment, when we will say goodbye. Do you live to die or are dying to live? When life happens, we grow And when death is coming We do not know. Thus, we forget that time is all we have that we hold, purposing ourselves on earth. I sit alone reflecting on, all the folks once judged, maybe also being judged. The unfairness of time, it does not give time for full recompense. There is joy and kindness later on in life, because we learnt from our experiences and lived our lessons well. Can we redo from birth to present? Is there a way to turn back the clock to be- a better human, maybe? Yet the curtain wi...

Twilight Zone - Life Tip 1

What to do when you don't know what to do. If you ever feel boxed into a corner to do something which you know is wrong, and your core is twisted on what to do - do what you know is the right thing - then stand aside and let God take over. During our youth we compromise before that painful hurting experience. As we get older decision-making gets easier or harder based on adjusted values and beliefs. You see life lessons can take us into that 'informed zone of understanding' and we can choose to modify behavior based on compromise and comfort level. As we grow even older, it seems that the cost of compromise can be a too high a cost because wisdom can kick in - and that's a good thing. The twilight of day comes after we live through a day, and reflect on outcomes. You can grimace or smile in that moment! Growing up I looked to my elders to teach me about life through their lessons, as an elder (hahaha) it has come full circle, now the student has become the teacher. T...

Get The Small Details Then The Big Picture

Conflicting objectives Today is a new day but in business we carry over the old problems challenges and situations to the next work period. Most times it will be the next day and it probably still looks the same. When we look at what must be done to complete a task or job we can encounter conflict. What is conflict or conflicting agendas? Well conflict in business relates to disagreement or something which brings a negative or alternate reaction to the surface. A good example can be the salesman trying to close a sale and needing support, being advised that the company has made its best offer and anything else will affect his commision rate. The company is holding its minimum margin and the rep grudgingly agrees to give up a part of his percentage. So what is the bigger picture here. A) the salesman needs the sale to meet his quota to gain commission for the month maybe even an additional incentive to pay his car insurance. B) the company can't afford to go lower beca...

Dealing with Personal Irrelevant Biases

Family Life Today it dawned on me how uncomfortable it can be loving people. Actually, its more about loving those members of my family whom I love and desire to share some happy moments with. My eldest son advised that "our family is the new normal, so your ideas of normal are outdated." He is right. In the movies we are presented with different types of families and situations which appeal to our senses. These images do impact on our perception of truth and can influence our expectations. I like looking at happy movies, and find it difficult to watch the uncomfortable stories. The horror dramas like 'Fatal Attraction', and 'Homeland' and many others, are based on some real stories that disturb and shake our emotions. Life is not an ideal perfect. Yet we expect perfection from our family members and can hold them to unreasonable expectations. My mother and father divorced at an early age and I grew up in a single parent household. Instead of apprecia...

Just Thinking Out Loud: It will all work out!

A momentary reflection "Things have a way of working out..." For many years I shared this sentiment with one of my sisters when life's challenges presented itself. It has become a profound and deep thought we both share to each other as uplifting advice when solutions are not easily seen. There is a lot of truth within the 7 words and today I reminded myself of this. Whatever you start to do will be completed. Even if the completion is not as planned or happens when you are ready, an end takes p ... lace. For an easy example let me share; " I visited the hairdresser and wished for red/burgundy hair and I have that color. I also did not want the color to seep onto my clothes. Well it did seep onto my clothes for a few weeks and its still seeping much less. She advised of this happening and I went ahead knowing the possible outcome, but decided it was worth it. Today I am no longer fussing about the red temporary stain on my pillow, its easy to wash off...

I sit alone with God: A spontaneous heartfelt rant

Disclaimer: Not all reflections are good I walk among criminals. You define these monsters as professionals because they dress and speak a certain way. They are educated ( or so they think) and in most cases are able to assume a role of power and status because of the occupation they call their career. Let’s be real, the face of corruption is just as bad in the corporate world, as the drug lord hiring the pushers to destroy a community’s youth. There is much to dislike in this world . There is so much abundance and yet the level of poverty rises, just like the tides of hate. Who the hell do you think you are? Who are you really when you pay your taxes and bills and everything which is declared as compulsory on your paycheck? Who the hell do you think you are when you go out to work every single day and expect a fair days pay for a fair days work? How dare you live your life anymore with expectations of anything good? Who the hell died and told you that you ca...

Cry…let the hero take a seat!

Mr. Achilles and my heel! I had to see a new doctor today for an evaluation. I’m just so tired of having to rehash  November, 2014. I’d like to forget it. Every time I think I’ve crossed that bridge, someone asks that innocent question – so tell me what happened? Yes, big girls cry. Big men cry to. Crying children get lots of cuddles and support. Us, big folks, we try to go undercover, with the sunshades, or silly excuses.  Sometimes we get a cuddle, or that look that says, “grow some balls, you’re too big to still cry.” Avoidance may not be the solution but I’m not sure rehashing the past over and over makes any sense . Hmm, but why the tears, I wonder. I like being considered strong, fierce, and kickass capable of fixing anything. How do you move from the flying hero zone to the flipside of a small sentence. Whatever happened to my resilience, bouncing back, more than a cat with nine lives. Hmm, I’m guessing  Mr. Achilles found my heel and took great pleasur...

Christmas Then & Now

Thinking Christmas... This Christmas like every other Christmas is special. In Trinidad & Tobago, Christmas is our spring cleaning season. The smell of paint and the sound of women negotiating with storekeepers for the best deals on drapery and curtains are a part of the  preparation. We are caught up in the commercial web, but somehow the consumerism gives way to friendly camaraderie as shoppers meet and exchange ideas. Christmas trees , decorations and music fill the air. We are a vibrant people, and very visual with our emotions. The malls, streets, and every city center is buzzing with activity. For me, getting the house 'ready' for entertaining and festivities seems like a mountain looking at a pebble on the beach. Can I ever finish, and will each day last longer than the last so I can do more with the time given? I am savoring these moments. Things are different when 'time' goes by quickly. My babies are big babies, and they have their own ideas abou...

A time of reflection

Reflecting... " The biggest part of who we are is sometimes who we are not!" (Eversley,DL. 2016) Last year I wrote a post called "An Act Of Contrition...Renewing Me", and published via LinkedIn Pulse. This year, as I read the post a lot of its truth still resonates. I have changed, my body is healing, and my spiritual core is being strengthened daily, but I am in essence the same. Reflecting on the words this year, has a lot more impact than last year. Maybe it is because, I have found the person I am will not change because of the circumstances around me. No I am me, and that person grows like a flame, when inspired by the miracle of life and living. The post is shared below: Sometimes to find the light within you need to move the junk covering your glow! A few years ago I did a tour of Harrison's Caves in Barbados - that's a shot from inside above. Its a limestone cave which is quite beautiful to enter and go through. There is that feeling...

Just Thinking Out Loud: Life with Me is a Limited Time Edition!

Time In clearing the drafts in my email something popped up, "life with me is a limited time edition." So, here I go wondering where that line came from and saw it was from me - smile! I just have to smile at that cocky line which would have come about from somewhere unknown right now. If a thought comes to me I've been making notes on the 'notes app'  on my mobile or in my email drafts. Sometimes I go back and continue, or, the words can be left behind along with the memory of why it came to light. Writing can be a lot of fun when you pull everything together and a post or article is the finished product. When its incomplete if there is a residual remainder, the tale may never make it to the eyes of others. This brings me to some random thoughts on ending the year in a state of completeness. Is it necessary to complete? "To complete is to finish, making that which was started whole or brought to an end. Nothing more can be added, and even if s...

A Bee Social Moment - Your Happy!

Quest for Happiness Sometimes, perspective can be the beginning and end of what holds us back from being happy! One Sunday evening, going for a cup of coffee, and minding my own business, and I heard.. Girl Crush by Little Big Town on the radio. Well it did take me all of ten seconds to realize that there is a lot to learn from figuring out the bright side. This is a great way of looking at a problem... getting to the source to understand what makes something work. I can see how this sad turn of events in a relationship, can have a happy ending - awareness! So, as you approach the things which can make you scream, Bee Social.. and remember, relationships should inspire us to stay together. If we have to part, its okay to walk away from the bad memories and keep the good ones for a smile. I'm with the very wise Linus on Charlie Brown.. Maybe the song is childlike, but then that's where we can make things easy to understand. Maybe I'm changing the ...

Inspired By The Challenges

A gentle reminder The challenges of the day should be embraced. This is how we get to test ourselves and be prepared for the next level in our lives. Maybe, there is no food for today, no money for today, and dire straits aka tough times are looming near. Your back is up against the wall, and you are flustered. At that moment stand up, and walk away from that place where you are. Take a few steps, and look behind. Now you can walk forward. Where you were is not where you have to be. You just made a choice. It may seem like a small step, but it was a big move. When we were growing up there were days there was no food, buts somehow my mother could prepare a meal with rice and margarine, and it tasted like fine cuisine. There were days when we lived on hope and a prayer. We lived, we grew, we overcame our challenges. Yes, my mother was employed as a teacher, but there are many who are employed living in a state of poverty. There is a cost to living and a cost to...

The Beach and The Lighthouse

My Favorite Place Yesterday I went to the beach, and this is meant to relax and inspire! I like the journey to my favorite beach on the island. It can take two hours or a little more based on traffic and road-works. To visualize my journey here is a map of Trinidad. I left Chaguanas and headed to Galera Point in Toco! Hope you can find it… A long way to go This beach is unlike any other . There are trees, forested areas, and a winding road which runs parallel to the coast line. Here are some photos taken with my LG Nexus mobile phone.             This beach is very sandy and grainy with lots of coral and pebbles, and for the first time I saw quite a bit of seaweed on the shore and in the water. There were people enjoying their sea-bath and quite a few children around, having a last minute frolic before school reopens next week. For me though it was just the sky and the water ...

Interviews and Beyond: Franci Eugenia Hoffman

We can learn a lot about a person from their past and their present, and if they will let us look beyond, we can find their hidden possibilities . This interview is about the way our imagination works. It is just a way of the storyteller, sharing another story. Each story is different, and yet they hold a treasure chest of  hope and possibilities ! I have asked Franci Eugenia Hoffman aka 'Brew & Spew' to embark on this challenge. This beautiful woman on your left looks like she is gazing deeply into your eyes, her thoughts hidden...at least for a short while! That smile says, "I see you" (hahaha) For our readers, imagine we are having a cup of coffee, whatever your favorite brew, and your thoughts go somewhere else. That wonderland is where my thoughts went as I sat imagining conversations with some of my favorite bloggers. Today I am pleased to share the questions and answers from this amazing writer. Sit back and relax as we go beyond the past to...
