Seize the day - now!

There are many times we wait for tomorrow. It is not promised.  We may wait for life to change and become more palatable sometimes. Then, there are moments when we wait longingly for hope to step in and make all the changes we desire. Hope is waiting for the future. To wait means standing still and allowing 'hope' to take charge. No matter how you spin it, the future is something we may never see.  Yet we believe that change can happen, and we hope that tomorrow will happen today. Then, time passes. We grow older. Our expectations and wishes may come to fruition or the waiting game will continue. As you read my words I'm sure you are waiting for the subject of this post. Every word that passes should take you to 'what is this all about'. If this is your thought, you have experienced the subject. It is about time. It is about our forevers which can be happening as we speak in real time.  I've been waiting for my kids to grow up. Waiting to get married. Waiting ...

You are Entitled to Happiness

You are entitled to Your happiness! Yes, that's right, you actually own the rights to your happiness. You have a choice every day, to wake up and smile. You can be happy at the beginning of the day, and during the day, and yes, before you go to sleep, it’s okay to be happy. During this year 2020, the world has fallen to its knees. Everyone, in all countries of the world are focused on something we have no control over. The Coronavirus Covid_19 has become a common denominator in conversations. It’s the one thing we can agree matters to most of us, and our families. It has become of source of fear, a sense of dread, and even a mood of hope. In the darkest moments we can find hope. The Fear is based on what we don’t know, and because there seems to be a lot of certainty surrounding a cure. While the World Health Organization (WHO) has given general and basic guidelines for global management, it’s the managing or lack thereof which triggers fear. The sense of dread is rea...

Life and Lemonade

Thankful for Lemonade Seems like I know a lot of sick/ ill folks. Sometimes life throws us lots of lemons, and after making lemonade, you get tired. This is the reality of prolonged illness or disability. I've found its a lot easier to smile and laugh in the face of challenges and pain. It does get better because out tolerance is heightened with our effort to improve our state of being. As I think about the funny stuff I've seen, and the way I feel looking at others smile, I realize the only difference in happiness is choice. We can gripe about a lot of stuff... and everyone can outdo each other in the 'woe is trouble' department. However, I've been doing a silent challenge this year, and maybe you can try it. The Challenge Look in the mirror and laugh at yourself. Be self- depreciating about your crooked teeth, or squinty eyes, or big butt! I have all sometimes. But find a way to laugh at you. Lighten up. There are a lot of folks out ...

Choices: A woman's right to choose

When I was pregnant with my first son, my father and the father of my firstborn wanted me to have an abortion. I was almost eighteen and preparing to go to London to continue my education at my father's home. Those plans were cancelled because I choose to have my first son. I made that choice and this year my son will be thirty. Having him was a struggle, but I made the decision because of my belief in everyone being responsible for their life and their actions. Making the decision to keep my pregnancy was hard. I had no money, no job, no support systems. I had my faith and my unquestionable love for Jesus Christ and the belief that no matter what he would never forsake me. I was in love and became pregnant through my own actions. There are consequences to our actions. I choose to take responsibility for my actions. Pregnancy is always a possibility when engaging in sexual activity. The Freedom to Choose Everyone should have the rig...

From Flab to Fab!

Writing it down Feeling great from the inside out. Countdown to the future me! Writing it down So you think there is a quick fix when it comes to weight loss? I’m sorry to tell you, first you need to define your flab and your fab for any action to work. Thought I would write myself a letter about my journey to fabulous today! For the New Year 2018 I’m going to reflect on my progress from this point and you can either bring out the champagne with me or eat some carrots as a consolation prize! I’ve had a head start and I’ve lost 2 dress sizes already, should I consider that an unfair advantage against me (haha)! It started with that photo of the woman running. I saw it above the massage bed at the physio office, and it called me. I heard it. It said run with me. One day later, I’ll answer her by writing to me! The Letter Dear Self, I’m defining my idea of ‘flab’ as the loose tire I carry around my waist. The one that falls over, but looks like ...

An Empowered Life

Question To Self... Do I have the skills, authority, capability, autonomy, motivation to take charge of my life? That is one of my questions to self, as I grow older. I am accountable to the 'me' I want to be, and have been throughout my life. If I want to feel empowered to succeed, follow my dreams and gain respect for accomplishments, walking the 'thought' matters. I had a discussion of sorts with my daughter, who declared at almost twenty everything she felt entitled to, with defiance and my thoughts went to 'empowerment.' Being empowered to make decisions and operate with some form of authority and autonomy has certainly been a topic of discussion for us women. Empowering our girls from an early age requires giving them the tools to move forward, and ensuring they have guidance and support systems to help them along the way. As I think about my daughter and the corporate and social world she has entered, I am reminded of my own 'rite...

The Value Of a Hug

* The world looks on as the United States of America appears to be in self destruction mode. One day it was a world leader of hope, justice, truth, liberty and many positives. The next it was everything we have been taught to dislike and fear - autocratic and totalitarian governing. Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin and Benito Mussolini, are examples of the type of governments from history’s past which lead totalitarian states. These are changing times, and we must take a stand  for what is right. A refugee’s hug Hug me please I’m on my knees Lost my home, My parents, and I am alone The war it raged, with bombs everywhere . Was left standing, no one seems to care. Hugs should be for free, so I’m asking you Can you open your arms It’s all I can give to you. Hug me please I’m at the airport today My mother’s in there, She was banned in the air. The people inside, won’t let me come in . Being born in a foreign land, right now is a sin A...

Surrendering to Courage

We belong This was written a number of weeks ago, and maybe its the time to be published. Right now 'courage' is needed more than before in my lifetime and maybe yours. I have a vested interest in this world, and so do you. We live here. We breathe here. We belong here, whatever color , creed, race, religious belief, social status, political belief, and the rest. It takes all that I have and then some more to have courage sometimes. No one can claim to have weathered a storm without experiencing courage. A lion does not have to be courageous unless he has to protect his loved ones or himself. What does it mean to have courage in the face of adversity and is it something one can have when one surrenders? Finding our courage Imagine with me - a man leaves his family and goes to work daily and patrols the streets as a policeman. He is prepared for adversity and criminal elements. One day he is faced with a decision to save a civilian, and may need to distract the crimi...

Just Thinking Out Loud: Life with Me is a Limited Time Edition!

Time In clearing the drafts in my email something popped up, "life with me is a limited time edition." So, here I go wondering where that line came from and saw it was from me - smile! I just have to smile at that cocky line which would have come about from somewhere unknown right now. If a thought comes to me I've been making notes on the 'notes app'  on my mobile or in my email drafts. Sometimes I go back and continue, or, the words can be left behind along with the memory of why it came to light. Writing can be a lot of fun when you pull everything together and a post or article is the finished product. When its incomplete if there is a residual remainder, the tale may never make it to the eyes of others. This brings me to some random thoughts on ending the year in a state of completeness. Is it necessary to complete? "To complete is to finish, making that which was started whole or brought to an end. Nothing more can be added, and even if s...

A Tale of Two Women – Hillary & Kim

Prelude… I was eighteen when I had my first son. I did not know what it felt like to love someone unconditionally until I met him as he grew in my womb. He was born on November, 22nd 1987, the most beautiful baby boy the earth had ever seen.    I had a toothache and it was after ten at night. There were no pharmacies open in those days, so my boyfriend decided to take us to his family home for medication. The house was quiet when we arrived, and it was after 12am. I went immediately to the bathroom for medication leaving my son and his dad on the sofa, their backs were facing the sliding doors which I heard close, as I hurried to get some toothx lotion. As I made my way after a few minutes to the front, I saw someone with a kerchief covering half of a face, and movement outside the door. Before I could respond, thinking maybe his brother was playing a joke, three men stormed in. The look on my face caused by boyfriend to hold onto our son and all the...

Inspired By The Challenges

A gentle reminder The challenges of the day should be embraced. This is how we get to test ourselves and be prepared for the next level in our lives. Maybe, there is no food for today, no money for today, and dire straits aka tough times are looming near. Your back is up against the wall, and you are flustered. At that moment stand up, and walk away from that place where you are. Take a few steps, and look behind. Now you can walk forward. Where you were is not where you have to be. You just made a choice. It may seem like a small step, but it was a big move. When we were growing up there were days there was no food, buts somehow my mother could prepare a meal with rice and margarine, and it tasted like fine cuisine. There were days when we lived on hope and a prayer. We lived, we grew, we overcame our challenges. Yes, my mother was employed as a teacher, but there are many who are employed living in a state of poverty. There is a cost to living and a cost to...

When The Sun Stops Shining...

Finding Sun… The only perfection is in the one who created us. He made us and perfectly formed us giving us all a ‘free will’ to make decisions and choose. Yes, we are the ones who decide where we go, and what we will do on this journey called life. I’m going to pull this one  from very deep within, as I seek to share with you a place of peace and reassurance. The road gets rough sometimes, and we still need to get a ‘move on it’ and live, achieve and accomplish.  What do you do  when life feels like the sun has stopped shining, and the cloudy skies empty a downpour of continuous rain? What happens when you get to the point of frustration, when clinging to hope seems in vain? Well, today is the day  you get to let the sun out if it’s not shining in your life. It’s also the day; you get to share your sunlight with someone who is having a cloudy day! It is important to know that you hold sunshine which you can draw on, and you can also share some light with ...

Finding Purpose...!

Purpose  This is an impromptu post..."we can listen, share an opinion when asked, and even offer advice, but it is the decision of an individual to determine their 'comfortable action'. As friends we can sit on the sidelines as cheerleaders, encouraging and supporting our friends in their choices. Everyone must make their own choices and are accountable for their own actions!" Having 'a purpose' is important! There must be a reason to awake each morning and face each day with a purposeful resolve. Purpose will establish a road to walk on and a place to get to. Purpose is determined by you. You get the opportunity to create a purpose for your life and your day. You also get a chance to set your goals and plan a way to fulfill your purpose. It would be a sad state of affairs in any life if  there is no understanding of purpose. Imagine waking each day and just waiting for something to happen - just waiting and wondering what will fill the time an...
