Out of the Box Thinking

Innovation and growth are present to disrupt the status quo.  We can learn on many levels and in multiple areas based on differences. The key for growth with differences is to harness newness and build on improvements. Seek out what can make differences work.  Innovate and create building on uniqueness because this is discovery. We are facing different right now. It’s time to think outside of the box. #discovery #disruption #differences #innovation #dream   Find me on: Twitter  https://twitter.com/DLE41  or email:  dwordslayer@gmail.com Photo Credit:  Eirik Uhlen www. unsplash.com © Donna-Luisa Eversley and D-WORDSLAYER, 2020. Of Panties and People: Fads and Choices

Distressed panties? Can the demand for distressed garments push you to the ultimate intimate? Distressed panties will not be something I will purchase even though I’ve got a few and they are too comfortable to let go. I had this crazy thought as I hung my undergarments on my outdoor line to get some sun while drying.  Imagine walking into a store and finding tired looking panties, shreaded, and with holes. Hmm that would get folks talking. It could even get those folks inclined to be ‘trendsetters’ buying a tired beatten flimsy panty for maybe double what one would pay for the regular stuff. The mind of the consumer can be confusing at times, thus I’m trying to figure out what would make someone get insane with intimates! Teeny Tweens. I can see this group of young-uns checking out a Kardashian blog or Taylor Swift update to see if they are wearing distressed briefs. If ‘reality and other famous stars’ are into a trainwreck piece of cloth these impressionable babes wil...

An Empowered Life

Question To Self... Do I have the skills, authority, capability, autonomy, motivation to take charge of my life? That is one of my questions to self, as I grow older. I am accountable to the 'me' I want to be, and have been throughout my life. If I want to feel empowered to succeed, follow my dreams and gain respect for accomplishments, walking the 'thought' matters. I had a discussion of sorts with my daughter, who declared at almost twenty everything she felt entitled to, with defiance and my thoughts went to 'empowerment.' Being empowered to make decisions and operate with some form of authority and autonomy has certainly been a topic of discussion for us women. Empowering our girls from an early age requires giving them the tools to move forward, and ensuring they have guidance and support systems to help them along the way. As I think about my daughter and the corporate and social world she has entered, I am reminded of my own 'rite...

Freedom of the Press/Freedom of the People

A Good Man Departs…Ushering in The Opposite There is much respect  for outgoing USA President Barack Obama. The humility, respect and class of this world leader never ceases to amaze me. As I read an article about his last press meeting, it was not difficult to compare it to the first press conference of the incoming USA President. These men are so different, yet the responsibility of the ‘office’ is the same. As President Barack Obama advised the press, they are needed to keep the office of the president in check. The press is needed to keep whoever is governing from committing acts which are not in the best interests of the country. The press are the guardians of democracy and the mouth piece by which the public will know that power is not being abused. When the incoming president met with the press he attacked them, disrespected those who chose to ask him basic questions, and called them fake. In my country there is a saying, “if you have cocoa in the sun, look out...

Culture & Christmas Trini Style!

My thoughts are on Christmas... I love the Christmas season. Actually, one of the most important and best parts of the season is our food. We have fantastic food which most homes will prepare to serve families and friends as they visit - from house to house. This season is about the richness of relationships and how we connect annually. There is a lot of love being shared, either through gift giving or hugs , kisses, and time spent. The poor and displaced are not left out as people dig deep to give everyone some Christmas cheer. I do wish Christmas was every day. Here is a post I shared last year on one of my blogs, to show you just how much fun my Christmas past was, and my present is in Trinidad & Tobago. Christmas Nostalgia - A Lime aka Informal Hangout! Its a 'Trini thing' with a Trini meaning - Lime! Growing up we learnt the value of togetherness through celebrations. A lime is simply the coming together of persons to share a few drinks and 'shoot so...

A Multi-Religious Society Trinidad &Tobago

Culture & Religion Trinidad & Tobago is considered  a multi-cultural and multi-religious state.  I grew up with the understanding that we are not all the same but we are the same, and need to respect each other. As a child, I went to school with children of different races, religions and social status. We were all different shades of color, and different textures of hair. We all wore the same uniform, and combed our hair with two white ribbons ( a girl school). As children we played together and most importantly celebrated and learnt about each other’s religions. There was a religious instruction  class which shared on Christianity (Roman Catholicism), Islam, Hinduism, the three major religions in our society. There were other religions, like the Pentecostal / Evangelical, Orisha Baptists, Baha’i, which we were informed about based on the children in the class. The best thing about religious practices, as a child were the holidays. We were given a day off f...

WHO ARE THE BLOGGERS - CHEERLEADERS.. PART 3

The Past From the days of  William Shakespeare, writers have longed to cultivate an audience willing to listen. In fact, from the beginning of time there have been writers of words, documenting cultural and social issues. Histories have been told illustrating the wonder of storytelling, imagination and society. Things have simply evolved, with bloggers taking the mantle of “social speech”. This is a historic occasion, a time when documenting life has become three dimensional, embracing reality, perceptions, possibilities! Technology and the present ‘Big data'( a collection of  data sets aka information ) is mined for ease of access,to ensure speed and reliability of information available on almost any conceivable topic. Does this affect the blogging community – it sure does. Everything we write is collected, curated, pooled through the various social media sites, making anonymity virtually impossible. By whatever name you wish to be called you are known. If you can b...

Braid My Hair - Empowering The Child

A Child's Hair... The ideas for a writer can come from anything. Social issues are always inspirational for me. While some topics can be sensational and controversial, the need to express an opinion can unearth suppressed emotional baggage. Growing up I had a thick mane of long hair. It grew and grew and never seemed to stop. Living in the Caribbean meant it was quite hot and uncomfortable many times when my hair was open. The texture of my hair was soft , wavy and wild. The other children would laugh at me when they tried to plait it because there were no 'ends', and thus would not stay fixed without a rubber-band. It unraveled on its own, thus I was in the minority of girls at school with challenges in braided styles. The News... As I read an article about a school in the Bahamas suspending a girl from school because her hair was not chemically 'relaxed' to appear straight and tame, the child in me appeared. This can be socially controversial, as confor...
