Eating Anyone?

Case: The belly growls One of the best ways to learn is from experience. To gain experience you have to perform an action, and sometimes you may feel uncomfortable. Sometimes you decisions are winners and sometimes you just mess up. Its okay to fail, and its okay to not be happy with the results, but what's not okay, is to not try. I've been called unconventional, and bold, but its how this passion for execution works with me. Breaking the rules have taught me more than toeing the line. Here is my first installment on cases for consideration in management from real events, real people, and real action! The security guard opened the gate. The clock on the dashboard gazed back at me 4:15am. As I drove into the compound, there were 2 vehicles waiting, their drivers jumped out. "Good morning Boss", the first guy said as he approached my jeep. "Hey, morning Boss, I was here first can I leave as soon as possible. Today its a long run." The second ...

Corporate warfare - Life Games

Life is not a game! Going through my drafts I came upon this . Two verses were used in another article, the words are now all awaiting their turn for sharing. It's the thoughts of a leader injured on the job and an organisation's determination to avoid association with the liability. Everything which is not positive gets hidden in the corporate world if possible. Injuries on the job are not noted when staff are urged not to make police reports, or to keep their jobs- be silent! ISO and OSHA standards are of no value if not enforced. Fear can keep the 'thoughtful strong' quiet and make the weak strong in understanding. No admonishments, just acceptance. If life is a game at work the stakes are higher than the prize.  Do you leave your men when they fall   Do you leave your men when they fall in battle Do you take them to the front yet walk away when they fall their eyes are open and heart beating still do you cross over turn away when they touch the ground ...

Humanitarian Advocacy 3 - The Real Cost of War & Justice (Part 2)

A Just Society "Justice is difficult for those with limited or no resources to fight." (Eversley,2016) In part 1, we saw a war declared, and the battle cry which followed was crushing.  The organization, the institution, the country have the resources and the capacity to crush the employee who dares to fight and not comply.  The Business Dictionary Online  defines 'justice' in the workplace in the following way:- “ Fairness in protection of rights, and punishment of wrongs. While all legal systems aim to uphold this ideal through fair and proper administration of the law of the land, it is possible to have unjust laws.”(Business Dictionary.com, 2015) Goliath v Employee How is an employee, an individual to take on this Goliath who holds freedom from economic poverty by employment? Goliath holds the keys to unlock statutory benefits based on compulsory subscriptions to government institutions. Goliath has the power of political affiliations in many...

Humanitarian Advocacy 3 - The Real Cost of War & Justice (Part 1)

Find The Light "In the moment of your hardest trials the sun will come out. In some way it will." (Eversley,2015) Everything in life has some light in the darkest of times. How do you value life and the cost of justice in a corporate war? Why start a war and what is justice - are the questions to answer. Life's Cost There is a cost to live, a life to pay for Do know your worth The value of your life If you can figure it out, give me your tally Hard to decide, if attributing money Can you value a part, maybe the fingers you write with? Do you think it’s worth more than words of a myth? No one part can be valued more than the other No one is more important than that unknown brother? So you live but you die; life of working shame For money, or power to add to a name Life misses its mark as you tarry and jest Love misses your soul, do you even feel regret Lashing out their voices in rage with threats of a war which is real Your dagger d...

Humanitarian Advocacy 2 - The sick & injured warrior!

I would not describe myself as brave.  I’m afraid of rodents, insects, and cringe when going to the dentist! There is something deep, deep inside my being though which abhors injustice, making it impossible for me to sit quietly. Never choosing to fight for myself, I would march quite boldly to defend another. In defense of others we can be fierce, but it takes that much more in defense of ourselves. There is a movie, I like to refer to when discussing human behavior  – 'Law Abiding Citizen', with Gerard Butler & Jamie Fox. The show revolves around a man’s fight for justice in an unfair system, created by those who are expected to uphold the law. He waits on justice and it was unfair. A plea bargain for testimony against the partner set the real perpetrator free - a man who raped and murdered  the wife and young daughter of a law abiding citizen. To change the system, while extracting his own justice, the victim, became the villain. I don't think he deserved the ...

Humanitarian Advocacy -1

Humanitarian Advocacy  can be simply defined as the action and process of supporting a cause to make other people’s lives better! There is a reason to promote a culture of humanitarian advocacy for all businesses as they seek their own success. What do people mean to you? You being, the people hiring the people, and the people responsible for employee welfare and good corporate governance. While we associate humanitarianism with world crisis, it really starts closer to home. This week, my focus is on those persons who are veterans of a different kind of war – Corporate injustice. No one sets out in life to fight legal battles . If we did, we would all have a diploma in legal studies. Yet somehow if I polled ten persons in a room, most would have a story of something legal they were involved in. When we go out for employment, there are contracts for everything, and a lot people just sign on the dotted line, skimming through based on the level of trust and need for the po...
