Be still my heart...

Overcoming challenges

Life can have so many challenges, but we will get through them. We can get through them if we believe we are not alone. Whatever you face is temporary. It happens in a moment and can be gone in a moment.

How you see the light depends on how you see and experience your light bulb moment. As I fussed over something beyond my own control, there was this realization. This 'light bulb' moment, when I stopped leading the battle and let someone who is stronger take control. I can do all things if I let go and trust that God will handle it. The circumstances may not have changed, but my heart and head actions changed. Thus, I became stronger, and able to face the next moment.

Be Still My Heart
Be still my heart
and let God fight your battles
Be still my tongue
and let your words be of good
This battle you fight
Will be over very soon
Be still, my beating heart
He fights just for you
Be still my heart
and let the storm pass over
Be still wayward tongue
Words can cause dismay
This battle is not yours,
though it started with you
Be still my beating heart
God's will, will come true
Be still my heart
and let this song come from your mouth
Give praise, bless his name
Rejoice, cause he has won
The war may rage on
But the tears will see an end
Sing, and shout all praises
Trust in Jesus to the end
Be still my beating heart
He is able to win in everything
No one can stand before him
and not give in
He can fulfill your heart's desire
Beyond what you can even conceive
Give it all over to Jesus
It is he who makes your heart beat
This life is a journey, and we must choose our battles, and our leader. I choose my maker, creator, savior.Maybe the answers are not as I expect, but my vision is limited by faith and not his ability.

Be inspired and encouraged in your journey!

Who Are The Bloggers ... Red-carders Part 2

Who are The Bloggers...holding red?

The blogging community is very much like civil society. Expressions of interest will be voiced and swords aka pens aka keypads will be drawn. There is much adrenaline when words flare at fever pitch, masked in cryptic messages. The hosting post then resembles a WWE ( World Wrestling Entertainment) match without a prize for the winner. I find this fascinating to watch and wonder at the excitement raised. A heated discussion can flesh out points and raise real concerns and solutions.

Human behavior transcends technological mediums. People desire respect, courtesy and fairness wherever they congregate. I like the ‘Red-carders’. They are the voices which stand up for something, and are not afraid to challenge the status quo. Who are these paragons of criticism, compliments and fearless writing? These are the ones I favor in the category 'Red-carder' of the Blogger Society…

Itai Leshem the Avenger of bloggers & master tactician, Reena Saxena bold and fearless Chief of opinions and objections. Pascal Derrien is the Commodore of Humanitarian Relief and strategy. Paul Drury is the Chief Justice Blogger Awareness Awards. Ramesh Sood is Commander Communication battles. Thomas Jackson Major Red-carder Extraordinaire. Bruce Johnston is Chief Policy Designer & Communication Strategist. Raising fire and ire are Phil Friedman Jim Murray Justice League Duo (2nd portfolio). Lisa Roche is Chief whip Commentator. Christian Farber is Chief Authenticator. Trent Selbrede is Chief Underdog Supporter. Paul Croubalian is Chief Technology expediter / Twitter guru.

What I find distinctive about 'Red-carders' is they take a stand and will walk alone if need be. They can hold their own, are good human beings, and that's something to brag about. I know these folks online. I read their words and comments. These are shakers and communication movers.Unafraid, bold and sometimes brazen!

According to empower-yourself-with-color-psychology.com - "red is a color of energy, passion and action." This meaning embodies my perspective on my 'red-carders'!

The screen shakes on my laptop and I'm swept in….it's 1942.

Uncle Humphrey Bogart is sitting looking out the window of his office. He turns to me….
Humphrey Bogart: “Honey, how is it going with your beBee ?" He laughs as he looks up..."Have a seat, you look special today. Did you close a big deal or snag a good bloke” He stands and slowly walks over to the chair, pulling it out for me to sit.
Donna-Luisa: “Uncle Humphrey, wow what are you drinking... Too much scotch today!” A playful chuckle escapes as I respond, “ beBee is great. It is simple and today I will set you up. You will find it easy to use and you have access to great information, storytelling and all my articles.”
Humphrey Bogart: “Actually baby girl, I set myself up already. Did you see that great post from David Grinberg - 'beBee Ready to Swarm North America with Affinity Social Networking', fantastic!”
Donna-Luisa: “But I thought you did not understand the internet. It is that easy to get started. Please give me a heads up if you decide to publish anything.” This world is not like it was before, when you were first here! There are some marketing tricks I want to share with you, and before I forget, Pascal Derrien says hello!
Humphrey Bogart: Pascal Derrien, he is the Irish/French chap I read about -the one to lead the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. You know some famous people Donna-Luisa.” He drawls as he stands up, leaning close to the window sill.
Humphrey Bogart: “Okay baby girl, will do. I met John White and Jim Cody while on beBee yesterday. I'm also in a few hives and the insights shared are good. Will let you know when I’m ready.” He looks out the window and into the sky…

 My thoughts return to 2016…

Social Media and the blogger

Online sharing can attract mass attention or no attention. Your choice!
1.   Twitter is your friend. Facebook is your friend. LinkedIn is your friend. These are sources of reading traffic. Keep posting your posts!
2.   Engagement with other bloggers is good for building relationships and reviews.
3.   Engagement is necessary for strategic distribution.
4.  Twitter is your ally.
5. Get creative with main image on post.
6. Encourage, explore and excite with words. Stimulate an action and feelings.
7. Do not be afraid to try a different platform/ social media outlet. Multiple outlets can help to drive awareness to customer friendly locations.
8. Be consistent in distributing your work. Share daily on Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn. Respond to as many comments as possible!
9.  Remember, the reflection of your effort will return to you. Encourage, engage other bloggers. You can disagree respectfully and passionately!
10. This one is big- Automation is not your friend when you are building relationships.Quality, value, substance is needed. Engage as frequently as you can.

There is another group of 'Red-carders' and they are 'Engagers.' Deb Helfrich Chief Human Relations strategist. Sergio Urea Chief Data Strategist. Debasish Majumber Chief Storyteller. Sue Chien Lee Chief Health Strategist. Willemijn Heideman Vice President Environmental Care. Donna Brewster Chief Commentary Support. Rasagna Pulapaka Chief Commentary Supporter. Dr Shashi Kant Chief Medical Supporter Humanitarian. Shelley Brown Chief Creative Innovation Wordslayer. Samira Akpan Major Project Planning and Storytelling.

It is with pride and honor I present my 'Red-Carders' and 'Engagers' they hold the Blogging Society in our internet space together. They overlap in their 'responses' and engagement. They all bring energy and vibrancy, without which we would all be left with meaningless humdrum rhetoric!

Can you handle a different opinion? Publishing means anyone who has access can read, and not everyone will share your sentiments!

My perception and your reality may differ, and this is our blogger's prerogative! Stay tuned as each society has a lot more than a couple blogs can offer. Next, a new society filled with cheer-leading bloggers. Citizen Blogger signing off.

Thank you for reading and engaging! I appreciate your presence!

Who are the bloggers...Part 1

Blogging

It's a different world when you enter social media blogging. It's a world of writers who write what they feel, love and share. It's interactive and engaging enabling conversations, opinions and sometimes energetic debate on social and global issues. This world exists via the internet. Technology allows us to get close and personal, forging relationships without the need for physical interaction.

Many years ago, before the internet, writers were restricted in the avenues of sharing their words. Publishers and bookstores were a major part of distribution. This has changed, with technology making publishers and bookstore-owners of anyone desiring to create their masterpiece. Who determines a 'best seller' largely rests with marketing savvy, distribution and networking.

Websites with blogging platforms have made writing and sharing easier. Bloggers can choose from a wide selection of  social media sites and everyone is looking to host 'content'. Value and quality are mixed with varying levels of experience and purpose. The audience gives credit through 'likes', 'comments' and the golden 'share' an indication of satisfaction or interest.

The value of the 'host' can be the deal breaker. Bloggers must be or engage in the skills of marketers to help share their blog of words, thus possibly becoming 'Blogging Entrepreneurs' along the way.Writers, authors, bloggers all write to share their words, and advertisers need this forum to show their 'wares'. It has become a very influential business in consumerism.

The New Age Market

Blogging provides an opportunity for engagement, and this creates an opportunity for showing 'relate-able goods and services'. The airlines may be interested in a travel blog, and supermarkets may gel with food blogs, the choices are all out there. Have you thought about how to make your blogging a source of income? As readers engage you can be the catalyst for so much more!

Just some more thoughts looking at my laptop, and thinking about 'the bloggers' in my life. As I gaze at the screen I’m holding back a smile and a chuckle. Who are these bloggers? The ones that jumped into my Dell stratosphere and gave my words the urging to come out...

The Scene is set

Time changes... it is 1942 and I'm speaking to my famous 'Uncle Humphrey'. We are in his office based in Hollywood. 'As time goes by' is playing in the background..
HB and DL a blogger’s fantasy…
Humphrey Bogart: "So Donna-Luisa, I see you made it to the ‘bloggers world’. What ya gonna do now?" He exhales as he slumps his body into the chair behind the desk, looking directly into my eyes, knowingly.
Donna-Luisa: "I love it all!" The words gush from my mouth as I walk around the room. “It’s thrilling when my words have their stage. It’s like seeing you perform. The way you make the audience feel, and want more is addictive Uncle Humphrey.” Looking across at him I stop, pausing to blink more than once.
Donna-Luisa: “You sure look like Jim Murray, Uncle Humphrey. Maybe he looks like you…hmm” a smile flickers across his face as I sit on the chair facing him.
Humphrey Bogart: “Can there ever be another me in this world? Well my dear, he must be really something special.” His chair shifts as he leans over the table bringing the glass in front of him to his lips. He pauses and smells the liquid, inhaling the scent of whiskey on the rocks before it gets to the depths of his throat.
Humphrey Bogart: “Hope you will stay a while. I need you to read this script, someone wants my services. What do you think baby girl?” he asks as he hands me a script. “Do you like suspense and drama? Maybe I should pass this to Phil Friedman, the crowds loved him in Casablanca?
The music stops, and my reverie ends...Its 2016

The Bloggers

The bloggers have personas created based on their writing and engagement style. Phil Friedman is the Mighty Fighter/ Marketer /teacher of all that is fair and right. Jim Murray is the  Chief Editor Marketing mentor / teacher. Aly B. Moreno is the Innovative Leader (moonlighting as weekend party A&RG Mania) encouraging growth with soft skills leadership. David B Grinberg is the Political- civil rights strategist. Shubhanshu Garg is the Chief Wordslayer supporter / business software Sales leader. Dr Gary Sharpe & Deb Helfrich are team Innovative solutions for Parkinson's disease and communication. Milos Djukic is the Engineering scientist who will discover metals which do not corrode at all. Steve Karlik is the Creative social media technology genius.  Lisa Gallagher is the passionate Head nurse and mental health strategist. Laura Mikolaitis is the Chief supporter of blogging citizens, Ibukun Adebayo is the Chief financial and humanitarian Advocate. Stephanie Loraly Moreno Mena is the Chief Supporter of likes and words. John White is the Leader Social Media Solutions / bebee.com Ambassador. Alan Geller is the After Dark Music Media party Guru. Shenoy UK is the Chief Humanitarian example. Karthnik Rajan is the voice of Research/ data and writing. Marcelle Hinkson is Chief Spiritual encourager / motivator. Susan Rooks is Chief Grammar Educator. Rod Loader is the Philosophy storyteller. Micheal Clarke is the Ambassador of Family Love. Benjamin Pinto is Major Business analytics & marketer!

The list goes on (with a lot of surprises), as does my conversation with 'uncle Humphrey Bogart'. As I share my bloggers to this world, these are relationships being built. These are beautiful people who engage with me and others. I appreciate this new world which became known to me. As Citizen Blogger, who am I, and who are we to each other?

These thoughts are playing with me, as my words continue building stories, and many can be discovered via 'hives' on bebee.com . My blogs are being built word by word  D-Wordslayer and donnaluisawordslayer have been a learning experience to date and this has been good. The future looks beautiful.

LinkedIn was and is a great place to start blogging. It is a great source of traffic for any blog. However, like flying a plane, you need a landing place to set up your base and refuel while passengers get on board!

In part two, I will be sharing even more bloggers from this world and some thoughts on marketing your blog. Citizen Blogger signing off!

Thank you for reading and engaging! I appreciate your presence! Feel free to thank Jim Murray for his great blog and sharing a 'picture' at the end of his work! I was trying to get creative and follow his lead, he just raises the bar soo high !

Finding Purpose...!

Purpose

This is an impromptu post..."we can listen, share an opinion when asked, and even offer advice, but it is the decision of an individual to determine their 'comfortable action'. As friends we can sit on the sidelines as cheerleaders, encouraging and supporting our friends in their choices. Everyone must make their own choices and are accountable for their own actions!"

Having 'a purpose' is important!

There must be a reason to awake each morning and face each day with a purposeful resolve. Purpose will establish a road to walk on and a place to get to. Purpose is determined by you. You get the opportunity to create a purpose for your life and your day. You also get a chance to set your goals and plan a way to fulfill your purpose.

It would be a sad state of affairs in any life if  there is no understanding of purpose. Imagine waking each day and just waiting for something to happen - just waiting and wondering what will fill the time and your reward for simply existing. Maybe even complaining about all the injustices of life and why you are not where you think you should be. Wow, that is a place you don't want to be.

Today, I am going to ask you to find your PURPOSE. Find something that you wish to seek, and map a path to its discovery. Along the way, embrace changes and opportunities for renewed or expanded purpose with your valuable life!

You are an artist and designer of your existence on earth, that's the choice we are all fortunate to have. Do you want to be a success? Can you feel and smell the taste of success creeping up? Listen closely, and engage in action!Define your truest life today!

It is a great adventure once 'purpose' coordinates are locked into the GPS of life and you press go! Wonderful! Enjoy the ride as you find what's waiting at the gateway of 'Purpose'

Enjoy your beautiful day.

Thank you for reading and engaging! I appreciate your presence!

Reflections on ALL.. A Mindset to Live!

An Attitude

Today as I reflect on ALL that we have I am grateful and appreciative for this wonderful life I awake to. From my Facebook page, my thoughts..

"This life is worth so much more than we know as we live it! Amazing! This year I started off declaring, with each moment given I will live. Whatever my struggles and challenges with my spiritual, health, family, relationships, work, and everything else - I will live each precious moment. This has been an active mindset- and heart set change which is reinforced often. The results of this change shows everyday...I visit one of my doctors every couple weeks and the receptionist is my paparazzi. She takes these great pictures, and I can see the difference in me. Seems my friends can also :-) .. Thanks for all the great comments and phone calls on the transformation as this journey called life continues. The light in me is more a reflection of my acceptance of the precious jewel we all have called life! It is rare, it is unique and we all have been given this original gift by our father Jesus Christ...
No one is perfect yet we are ALL perfectly made. No one is better than the other because we ALL have something in us our creator loves. We are ALL here on this earth for a moment. Let your light shine. Let your challenges not be the subject of your life but the object of your victory in this life! Be Blessed & Encouraged!"
A personal message to my family and friends and YOU on my heartfelt condition! Smile the world will smile back!

Corporate warfare - Life Games

Life is not a game!

Going through my drafts I came upon this . Two verses were used in another article, the words are now all awaiting their turn for sharing. It's the thoughts of a leader injured on the job and an organisation's determination to avoid association with the liability. Everything which is not positive gets hidden in the corporate world if possible. Injuries on the job are not noted when staff are urged not to make police reports, or to keep their jobs- be silent! ISO and OSHA standards are of no value if not enforced.
Fear can keep the 'thoughtful strong' quiet and make the weak strong in understanding. No admonishments, just acceptance. If life is a game at work the stakes are higher than the prize.
Do you leave your men when they fall
Do you leave your men when they fall in battle
Do you take them to the front
yet walk away when they fall
their eyes are open
and heart beating still
do you cross over
turn away
when they touch the ground
Do you feel their pain as the air lifts them updoes the sharp gasp send you reeling
Do you leave and turn away
when they fall ... for you
Do you feel their eyes  departing
Can you feel the pausewhen life is suspended
when the break in the wind
sees blood pouring out
Can you feel the heart beating
as it watches you depart
Can you feel the hope
gone from your own hands
Yes ..your soldier has fallenfrom the battle field
up in front
from the line of the march
where he gave
All his comrades see him fall
to his pain
no one held him back
from the line of attack.....
Do you feel my painas I call out in the night
the battlefront  never lets me go
looking up to the sun
with my eyes open wide
fallen , but alive
my heart is beating.
Do you feel my anguish and walk overwalk away
despair ...leaving  life on the ground
once revered
Can you feel your own place
in the battle of  'lost  hope'
Can  you spare  your soldier .. he did work.
What do you stand for when you cannot stand? Who fights on behalf of those who take on the Goliath of the corporate world. Be kind, be just, be fair, and whatever you do have a heart which beats blood and not dollars and cents!
There is no feel good end filled with lollipops.... but a good feeling in endurance.
In peace.. it goes out into the world now.. released!
Thank you for sharing  your thoughts lets all raise awareness of Humanitarian Advocacy in the workplace by sharing!

As The Story Says

The Fairy-tale

"Once upon a time, far away across the Caribbean Seas in a tiny island, a family of four little girls played in the sun. They lived with their mother alone as their dad went away to seek his fortune, never to return. The girls were taught about the continents, geography, romantic dreams and of course, the reality of life..."
This story could be the beginning of any one of the fairy-tales, or  Enid Blyton Stories, but it is real. Life for many children growing up when I was younger was a romantic dream of sorts on many days. We lived on stories of fairies because we were part of the Girl Guide movement, and storytelling was the way we learned about right and wrong, good and bad. There were also stories from local folklore which seemed to give credence to the existence of  a magical kingdom. Even attending bible study and Sunday Mass seemed  to be a part of the fantasy conspiracy we called reality.
It was not until I turned ten or eleven years old, my magical world dissolved. It left me unsure and sad, but only for a moment.Life moved onto a different fantasy by my fourteenth year. My mother was an avid reader of 'love storybooks' such as Mills & Boon and Harlequin Historical Romances, and I would sneak to 'borrow' her books secretly.

       Many Years Later

Fast forward to over thirty-five years later. Yes, a lot can happen in that time including spy thrillers and stories of espionage! Here is some poetry to fill in the gaps written in 2009.

As The Story Says....

There was a lot of time spent believingthat life was indeed
a fairy tale.
It would get bad before it got better or worse
so making the silly mistakes was necessary.
It was a rite of passage to get to
where we wanted be.
Destiny was sure if you could endure..
So we chose the ones who,
pretended to love us
could not love us
never would truly adore us
and we accepted that everything would be okay.
On a white horse, or flying through the cloudsour dream would float in.
Correcting all the wrongs as,
we slipped on the right slipper finally,
or agreed to kiss that awful frog who would change.
Because we were thought to think
and believe in good prevailing over evil
but the bad should come first...
And slowly we accepted an unjust faithembracing possibilities that were never real.
Then the wolf came and blew the house down
And we ate the poisoned apple
and fell into an unnaturally acceptable sleep,
waiting for the beast, to present the rose
or the witch to become a porcelain beauty
without flaw.
By law we gained nothing and lostall the dreams.
Wishing for the avenging duel
to take place,
to correct and make right
all our wrong decisions.
Finally we prayed, maybe we prayed all along
To a God we believed
could not hear, would not hear
our weary cries from the heart.
Until we believed
and accepted our life
His life
We remained alone, hopelessly holding onto a faithhidden by the hills in our heart.
But the seas rose, and the waves
covered our shores,
of pain, sadness, disbelief and vanity.
Till we swarm to the shore
embracing our father
not a fable
or fairy-tale
but the blood that was given
setting us free
Giving a new reality
A life no longer bounded
By fairy-tale history.
As this story of life unfolds there is much to laugh at and reminisce on. Do I still believe in fairy-tales, yes I do! I believe in many fairy-tales with a glass of wine and some popcorn  at the movies, and you can add a slice of chocolate cheesecake to complete the dream!
Thank you for reading and engaging, and I hope you managed a smile as you remember your favorite fairy-tale!.

Braid My Hair - Empowering The Child

A Child's Hair...

The ideas for a writer can come from anything. Social issues are always inspirational for me. While some topics can be sensational and controversial, the need to express an opinion can unearth suppressed emotional baggage.

Growing up I had a thick mane of long hair. It grew and grew and never seemed to stop. Living in the Caribbean meant it was quite hot and uncomfortable many times when my hair was open. The texture of my hair was soft , wavy and wild. The other children would laugh at me when they tried to plait it because there were no 'ends', and thus would not stay fixed without a rubber-band. It unraveled on its own, thus I was in the minority of girls at school with challenges in braided styles.

The News...

As I read an article about a school in the Bahamas suspending a girl from school because her hair was not chemically 'relaxed' to appear straight and tame, the child in me appeared. This can be socially controversial, as conformity into what is acceptable continues to rear its ugly head when we least expect it. It seems we have not passed the stage of  acceptance of differences. This dialogue of poetry is from my inner child, which jumped out in rebellious understanding...

        Social hair

Plait my hair please mom,
She screams
Let them see the beauty coming from the top of me
My hair is not wiry
Its kinky with curls
That's what is needed for all special girls
Plait my hair please, my friend
Keep going till you get to the end
If it won't stay tight, cause my ends are too straight
Here is a rubber band or some woggies
Add some beads, that will be great
Plait my hair please, in corn rows big or small
I look so beautiful
Just see how it all falls
I'm naturally beautiful, with my glorious mane
No need for relaxer, chemicals, or anything
To make it look straight
Plait my hair please... do you know how to do it
Its like weaving and folding,
My curls are like fabric
It's strong like the lady I will grow up to be
Keep it groomed, keep it growing
I want the world to see me
She walked to the salon
swaying from side to side
Her hair, and its beauty, hidden on the inside
Make me look good
The weave was just to tease
I'm taking over this world
Strong woman I am, plait my hair please!

As women we are the same yet different based on ethnicity and cultural evolution. Skin color, hair texture, facial accents and social trends may influence our outward appearance. Societal dogmas and indigenous practices are obscured from our children, until they are faced with discrimination.

We make choices, because we are fundamentally free in theory, but when exercised the backlash can be harsh and painful. Each society has values and beliefs passed subtly in many instances to our children, and as they grow they accept, conform naturally. As children are exposed to more, they seek their individuality and rebellious choices. Are they correct to determine what is their best authentic self?

In this present day with technological advancement constantly changing, are superficial differences really important? They were not important before, so what makes them more important now? Whatever creed, race, gender, who we are should be determined not by the exterior sameness, but by our passionate ability to create our life's contribution to society.

Plait my hair please, open your eyes and see this child's beauty!

Thank you for reading, commenting and sharing. Let's share this positive message and discuss!

Happy International Women's Day 2016...

The message

I did not realize how special today is until I saw a beautiful Whats App message with its proclamation! For everyone celebrating being a woman and those who appreciate the women in their lives, I'm sharing  - The Total of a Woman. You may have seen it before, but today, it's meaning is extra special!

Orchids

Orchids have fascinated me for many years. They have a unique quality and scent which seems very feminine and sultry.
These flowers are beautiful, strong and colorful, like us women. They need some water but can go for a long period without, always sharing their beauty before they come to an end. They are resilient, long lasting, exotic, and complex with an aura of fragility. They are orchids...just like you and me or the women you know.
Thank you my friends for engaging, sharing, commenting or simply viewing the flowers above.

Walk On Water

The unseen

In 2007 I started my second business venture and left the corporate world. It was during this time I understood what it means to have an entrepreneurial spirit. Entrepreneurs are a different breed of people. We risk. We believe. We have to have faith in what we are doing and our ability to succeed.

There was a time when I faced one of my battles, an adversity of a corporate nature, and learnt my spiritual convictions were needed to persevere. Let me share my prayer which has been on the refrigerator door from 2007 when written;

Walk on Water....
Lord I promise you today
that if I am blessed with another moment
another second,
another day,
without fear that I will sink
into the depths that are so very deep
I will walk towards you.
I will place my hands in yours and let you lead me safely
to the place you want me to be.
Lord, if my eyes should be moved from you,
if only for a moment, a second,or even a day
and the depths below should rise to consume me
don't let me go.
If my hand feels like its pulling away
and my voice rises, and you feel and hear
an uncontrolled fear within me

We are human. Yes, we feel afraid at times, but we must overcome that fear, and move forward in faith, with determination and courage. Never give up. Walk on water!

Be inspired.
